We study and predict the deformation and damage of materials.
Materials Mechanics Laboratory, Seoul National University
Welcome to the Materials Mechanics Laboratory.
Thank you for your interest in the Materials Mechanics Laboratory (MAMEL) at Seoul National University.
At MAMEL, we conduct integrated research that combines theory, experiment, and computation to understand the mechanical behavior, deformation, and damage of materials from a physical standpoint. Our work is grounded in Solid Mechanics and Continuum Mechanics, with a strong focus on Computational Mechanics of Materials. We aim to analyze complex multiphysics and multiscale material behavior using advanced experimental techniques and state-of-the-art numerical methods.
Our research approaches include experimental mechanics, crystal plasticity finite element method (CP-FEM), microstructure evolution modeling, and multiscale computational modeling. We aim to develop high-fidelity models that can predict complex processes and material responses observed in real industrial applications.
Our main research targets include advanced high-strength steels (AHSS), lightweight metals such as magnesium and aluminum alloys for automotive applications, polymers and composites, battery materials, and optimization of semiconductor materials and processes. We cover a wide range from theoretical modeling to understanding physical phenomena under realistic process conditions.
At MAMEL, we value creative problem-solving and interdisciplinary thinking. We foster a research environment that encourages autonomy and deep engagement. Active collaborations with leading institutions and industries provide opportunities not only for academic growth but also for solving practical challenges.
We welcome enthusiastic graduate students and postdoctoral researchers who are passionate about deeply understanding the physical behavior of materials and engaging in creative, cutting-edge research.
