Mechanical properties and formability of Li-ion battery pouch

박중현

A reliable failure prediction framework for aluminum-polymer laminated pouch films that integrates experimental ductile fracture criteria into finite element simulations to prevent manufacturing defects.

What we do

  • Investigate the complex and inhomogeneous deformation behavior of multi-layered pouch films (PET/PA/Al/PP) during the deep-drawing and forming processes.
  • Establish a localized ductile fracture criterion by correlating experimental minor/major strain data with Digital Image Correlation (DIC) and FE analysis.
  • Develop a numerical prediction model to identify and mitigate structural vulnerabilities, such as corner cracks, ensuring the long-term stability of battery packaging.

A study on galling behavior of stainless steel sheet metal forming

문지환

A tribological investigation that characterizes the galling behavior and wear mechanisms of stainless steel forming by analyzing interactions across various tool interfaces and surface topologies.

What we do

  • Analyze the influence of different tool materials and coatings, such as TiAlN-coated and copper alloys, on the frictional behavior and durability during sheet metal forming.
  • Characterize and distinguish between adhesive and abrasive wear mechanisms through advanced surface roughness profiling and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
  • Identify critical failure modes and transition points from debris generation to severe galling to optimize tooling strategies and extend tool life in industrial environments.
